Heute stiegen wir in Basel ins Flugzeug nach Paris. Von dort ging es weiter nach La Habana, oder besser bekannt Havanna, der Hauptstadt der Insel Kuba. Schon lange wollte ich diese Insel besuchen und ich wollte es tun, solange noch ein Castro an der Macht ist. Die richtige Voraussetzung um den Traum endlich zu erfüllen!

Today, we flew from Basel to Paris. From there we flew to La Habana (Havana), the capital of the isle of Cuba. This destination has been my dream for a long time. I wanted to see this island while a Castro is still in power. The right setting to let the dream come true!

Dieser süsse, kleine Embraer brachte uns nach Paris, von wo wir mit einer Boeing 777-300ER den langen Weg nach Kuba auf uns nahmen!

This nice, small Embraer plane brought us to Paris. There we transferred to a Boeing 777-300 ER for the long, transatlactic flight.

Angekommen sind wir um 17:35 Ortszeit, also um 23:35 MEZ. Da wir im Flugzeug schon geschlafen hatten, zogen wir auch gleich nach dem Beziehen des Hotelzimmers ein wenig um die Häuser. Wir gingen zur Plaza de la Catedral und weiter zum Malecón (der Uferpromenade Havannas).

We arrived on time at 17:35 local time - 23:35 MEZ. We had slept a little bit on the plane so that we felt like browsing through the city after we had checked into our hotel. We went to the Plaza de la Cathedral and then to the Malecón (the water front of Havana)

Unser Hotel hiess 'Del Tejadillo' und wird als Geheimtipp gehandelt. Es liegt gleich bei der Kathedrale und somit in unmittelbarer Nähe der Altstadt (Habana Vieja).

Our Hotels name is 'Del Tejadillo' and it is an insider tip! It is near the cathedral and therefore near the old town of Havana (Habana Vieja).

Kuba hat 11,2 Mio Einwohnern und die Amtssprache ist Spanisch. Die Gebrüder Castro regieren in dieser sozialistischen Republik. Die Hauptinsel umfasst 105'007 km2 - ist über 1'200 km lang und zwischen 31 und 190 km breit. Dazu gehören die vier Inselgruppen Los Colorados, Sabana-Camagüey, Jardines de la Reina und Los Canareos, die insgesamt aus 1'600 kleinen Inseln bestehen.

Cuba has 11,2 million inhabitants and its official language is Spanish. The brothers Castro govern this Socialist Republic. The main island covers 105'007 km2 - is about 1'200 km long and between 31 and 190 km wide. That includes four archipelagos named Los Colorados, Sabana-Camagüey, Jardines de la Reina and Los Canareos. These archipelagos to consist abut 1600 small islands.
