Highway to Viñales

Von unseren Freunden hörten wir nur gutes und tolles über Viñales. So beschlossen wir dorthin zu fahren. Auch unser Reiseführer versprach tolle Erlebnisse. Also los ging es! Um nach Viñales zu gelangen nahmen wir die 'Autopista Nacional', die nationale Autobahn. Wenn ihr nun denkt, das sei eine gewöhnliche Autobahn, dann täuscht ihr euch gewaltig. Eine Auffahrt gibt es schon mal nicht in Jagüey Grande. Lediglich ein Schild ermahnte uns vorsichtig zu sein, weil nun gleich die Autopista überquert wird. Ja, ihr lest richtig. Die Auffahrt ist eigentlich eine Kreuzung, auf der man auf die Autobahn abbiegen kann. Auch auf der Autobahn selbst hat es viel Leben, Pferdekutschen, Fahrräder und jede Menge Fussgänger. Die Einheimischen warten entlang der Fahrbahn auf Mitfahrgelegenheiten. Es gibt Leute, die sind angestellt um die Reihenfolge zu überwachen. Alle Fahrzeuge mit einer blauen (Regierungs-) Nummer müssen Autostopper mitnehmen.

From our friends, we heard only good and great things about Viñales. So we decided to give it a try. Out guide book also promised us great experiences. So we went on the road! To get to Viñales, we took the 'Autopista Nacional', the national highway. If you now think that it is just an ordinary highway you're quite wrong. A highway ramp doesn't exist at Jagüey Grande. Only a sign warned us to be careful, because our road crossed the Autopista. Yes, you read correctly. The highway is be crossed and you just turn right to enter the highway. Even on the highway, there's a lot going on, horse drawn carriages, bicycles and lots of pedestrians. The locals are waiting along the road to form carpools. There are people who are employed to monitor the order in the queue. Vehicles with a blue (government) number must pick up any hitchhikers.

Es gibt aber auch Leute die ihre Ware auf der Fahrbahn verkaufen wollen. In diesem Fall wird die dargebotene Ware einfach in die Luft gestreckt und wenn es einem gefällt, hält man an und kauft mal schnell ein.
